The BSYC was established in 1919 at its present site at Seacliff due to its sheltered location, wide sandy beach and easy access for launching and retrieving boats. The sea bottom is sand and gently sloping, with little significant shore break until weather conditions are marginal for racing. BSYC is ideal to visit all year round, but especially in our sailing months of October to April. During the summer months of December, January and February the weather is warm to hot, averaging 26-29 C, with the predominant winds along the Adelaide coastline being south westerly afternoon sea breeze (average 15-20 knots), although there are occasional strong north-westerly winds. Tides are usually 0.3 m to 2.5 m in the summer months. The climate at BSYC is best depicted by the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) monthly climate statistics for Adelaide Airport, which is 8.6 km to the north of BSYC. (See Links at the bottom of this page).
If you're flying in, then the yacht club is only about a 20 minute taxi/uber ride away. Unfortunately although there is public transport, there's no direct route, however there is a train line that goes from the CBD and has a stop near the club if you are planning accomodation away from the club.
If you're driving in, just avoid peak hour and the CBD and follow your map.
